Increment Bidding Questions

The bid increment is the amount by which a bid will be raised each time the current bid is outdone. It is predetermined based on the current high bid.

How is the bid increment amount determined?: Please view this table

Current Price

Bid Increment

$ $ 10.00 - $ 29.99

$25.00

$ 30.00- $ 99.99

$25.00

$ 25.00

$ 250.00 - $ 499.99

$ 500.00+

$ 50.00

How is a bidder outbid in increment bidding?

A bidder may be outbid by less than a full increment. This would happen if the winning bidder's maximum bid beats the second highest maximum by an amount less than the full increment.

Can the bid increment go higher than the standard increment?

A bid increment will go higher than the standard increment in two situations:

  • To meet the reserve amount if there is a reserve price on the item
  • To beat a competing bidder's high bid (proxy bid)

How do I become the highest bidder?

If you successfully have met the reserve and you are bidding against another bidder's maximum bid, your bid has to meet the other bidder's maximum bid plus one cent to become the current high bidder on the item.

What does it mean when the item shows 2 bids but there is only 1 bidder?

This happens when a user places more than one bid to increase their maximum bid amount.

Why was the bid increment bigger than I expected when I placed my bid?

The bid increments get bigger as the bid price increases. Please refer to the table above outlining the different increment levels.

For example, an item displays a current high bid of $50.00. The increment at that level is $25.00, which means you have to bid a minimum of $25.00.

Mybid.com.au uses a bidding system known as proxy bidding we believe this makes the bidding process more convenient and time effecient for our users.

Proxy Bidding Questions

To understand more about how proxy bidding works please keep reading:

When you place a bid, you can enter the maximum amount you wish to purchase the item for.

Your maximum amount is kept private from other bidders/users.
The bidding system then automatically compares your bid to other bidders.
The automatic system then places bids on your behalf that is a portion less than your maximium amount and maintains you as the highest bidder.
The system will never bid beyond your entered maximum amount.
During the auction if another bidder/user has entered a higher maximum, you will then be outbid and will no longer be the higher bidder.
If during the auction another bidder does not enter a higher maximum, you will then win the item as the higher bidder if your bid has met the reserve.
The final winning amount could also be less than your maximum amount entered.
So if you do not have the time to keep re-entering your bids you can simply enter the highest amount you do want to pay for the item right from the start.

How do I place a proxy bid?
Go to the item you wish to bid and in the Bid Now box place you maximum bid, this is highest amount you are prepared to pay for the item.

How will I know if I have been outbid?
If you are outbid you will be notifed by email

If I get outbid how do I place another bid to become the higher bidder?

If you have decided you are prepared to pay more then your previous proxy bid then go back to the item and place another proxy bid or the next minimum bid increment amount required until you become the higher bidder.

Is there a Reserve Price?

Yes this auction is subject to a Reserve. The reserve price is not disclosed. The reserve is indicated by an icon located under the items bidding information. The reserve symbol is shown as the letter R. If the icon is green this means the reserve price has been met. If the icon is red the reserve price has not been met. If the icon is red at time of auction closing you will not be shown as the highest bidder, you only become the highest bidder once your bid amount has met the items reserve. When the auction closes and you are the highest bidder and the icon is green this means you are the winning bidder.
